Read it... isn't it amazing how they recoginzed God's awesome power, and were even afraid of it and Him, but refused to give Him the honor and worship He deserved? The could tell that the God of Isreal was greater than their god, Dagon, but still, the worshipped their statue instead of the living God... weird. But, I suppose we do the same thing in some regards... we recognize the awesomeness of God, but refuse to give our time to Him... we refuse to give Him the first of our money, our energy,... our schedules are centered around all we have to do, but then we will 'squeeze' in our time with God, if we end up having some 'left over'... so, maybe time is our god... like Dagon was theirs... maybe money and security is our god...maybe sleep or commitments or entertainment choices or whatever else... it is really sad to think of all the things we can, and very often do, put in place of God, even when we can see and so readily verbalize the power and awesomeness of the One True God.... and we claim to worship Him... at least the Philestines and all the other cities weren't being hypocritical... hmmm... somethings to ponder, I think... sandJ
The IDEA: Romans 1:12-That we may be mutually strengthened, encouraged, and comforted by each others faith. Have you ever read the whole Bible before? We have never done it. We want to share God’s Word, but how can we if we do not know it.
The PLAN: Ecclesiastes 4:12-One person is easily overcome, but two can stand together and conquer. Three is even better, though, as a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. With each others help we can succeed-So, let us team up and read the Bible in a year.
The DATE: We will start Dec 26, 2009 - Dec 26, 2010.
The FYI: We will read 3-4 chapters each day, starting in Genesis, and post thoughts daily. If you do not have a Bible, you can access many translations at www.biblegateway.com. You can also download an audio for each chapter at: http://www.audiotreasure.com/webindex.htm
