  2. Chapter 11: verse 6... it kills me how non-chalent this comes across, like, 'so what if there are millions of them and only thousands of you.... so what if they are bigger, stronger, smarter, cooler, wealthier than you... you have God on your side, and they don't... so, no worries'... obviously I am taking literary liberties in that paraphrase, but it did make me think how God tells us the same thing in our lives... 'so what if the task ahead seems huge and the details seem impossible and you feel inadequate... so what... I, God, am with you... so, no worries'
    verse 13... why?... just curious
verse 15... impressive that this 'telephone' chain message did not get mixed up in the retelling of it... I think of all the times that we played 'telephone' as a child and how the ending message never was the same as the original... now, was that due to people trying to mess it up, to inadequacy in carefully relaying the message, poor listening, or what, I don't know... but, it is amazing to me that God, Moses, and Joshua all used the right communication skills to make this a successful retention of information... just proves good communication can be had... and also shows how great their oral language and story telling was... we are talking a bunch of years here between God telling, and Joshua carrying out... gives me another reason to be confident in the accuracy of the Bible, in the face of the 'oral tradition' arguments, where people say that the full truth and message must have been lost in the retelling of this prior to everything being written down... well, it didn't seem to affect anything here (compared to the rest of the books)
verse 22... does this have any modern day significance to the things going on in the Gaza strip?... just curious.
verse 23... good to have rest, especially from war... will we ever see this?... also, makes me think about how we are in a spiritual battle, and how we need to be in constant combat until we are given rest... probably another reason why God is so insistent about rest on the Sabbath, too.... so we can be ready for the next battles when they come.

  3. Chapter 12: according to study notes, verse 1-6 refer to battles fought under Moses (see Numbers 21:21-35)... and vesre 7-24 are kings defeated under Joshua
veres 9-24... I think it is weird that 'one' is listed after each king... you'd think that if there was only one king defeated in each kingdom, then it would make more sense to just say that at the beginning or end, as a whole... actually, I would have just assumed there was one king in each kingdom, unless told otherwise... but, maybe it is because there were multiple kings who banded together to fight against the Isrealites, so in order to keep any confusion from happening, it was detailed out this way... I also thought that the 'one' might be a tally mark that God was giving Himself, you know, like 'king of Jericho-0, God-1; king o...'... so the score is God-31, kings-0... that is a pretty good tushy-beating, I'd say :)... important to emphasize that the victories were because of God... the Isrealites kicked a lot of butt here, but only becasue God was with them... there were multiple times that we've read about where the Isrealites got some good rump kickings themselves because the went withOUT God... important to apply to our lives... when we fight battles with God-we will see a victory... when we do not include God or follow His lead/will-we will have sore bottoms... so, to recap, with God-good; withOUT God-bad
