Numbers 34-36 today Deuteronomy 1-3 tomorrow

The boundaries of Canaan was define by God to Moses. Towns that were given and assigned to the different Israelite tribes. Levites were given 6 towns to be a place of refuge for persons who has murdered someone or accidently killed someone. They are to flee there until they are judged.

Now, think about the children. The children need a safety zone also to retreat to when they are tired of arguing with another sibling or when they have hurt a sibling. The child needs a place for refuge until Dad or Mom can straighten things out. The children need safety zones where they can read or play quietly without being disurbed. If children have separtate rooms, these should be established as safety zones. If children share a room, pick another accessible but isolated area. The refuge isolates unfriendly behavior. This is temporary until Dad or Mom gain all facts of the matter and to be established.

  1. Chapter 34: Sounds like the boundaries were all around the area that they had been wandering in... was God giving them a grand tour of all that would be theres the whole time?
This is not an important note, but I do really like to listen to the pronunciation of all the names on the Audio Bible... the reader does such a good job, and the names are so interesting many times.

Chapter 35: verse 1-5...Cool how God surrounds His people's towns with His priests
verse 6-15... interesting that there are refuge towns for people who have killed someone... reminds we of the "base" when playing tag... they are safe and off limits when they flee to the refuge towns... however, it is also interesting to see that they are more or less holding areas for these people as they await their trial... I wonder what a town full of "murders" would be like? Where there other people in the town, too? If so, I wonder how did they feel about living in a town of "criminals" (accidental or not)?
verse 19... "avenger of blood"... is it a person? the High Priest maybe? is it an angel from God, like the one that passed over the houses in Egypt killing the first born there? is it??? any insights on this?
    verse 25-28... interesting
verse 30... witnesses are important... more than one required.
verse 31... no ransom... how would our justice system function without bail
verse 33... person responsible must make atonement
verse 34... don't defile God's home... since our bodies are now God's home, we need to be just as careful about not defiling our bodies (see 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, as well as other scriptures about keeping your body pure and undefiled)

Chapter 36: verse 7... interesting... I wonder why it matters?

Ok, short and (sort of?) sweet tonight...
    God Bless,
