  2. Chapter 21: verse 1-10... since God knows all things, and must know who killed the man, I wonder what happens to the 'unknown' killer... does God avenge the death of the 'innocent' man? Why didn't He just tell the people who did it, since He spoke to them all the time? Just curious.
verse 12... probably a hygeine thing, because this is definately not a beauty thing... may be a way of telling the other men around that she is spoken for, too.... just made me think that it was kind of adding insult to injury, though... first you get taken captive, then you get your head shaved... not really very cool.
verse 13... interesting that she is given a month to mourn the loss of her family... is it because they were killed in the capturing, or because she has now become part of the Isrealite people, and so all her old ways of life and family ties are considered 'dead'?
verse 14... interesting that the woman is then considered dishonored.
verse 15-17... first that would be so sad to be the 'unloved' wife!... second, this reminds me of the lessons learned through Abraham (with Sarah and Hagar), as well as Isaac (with Esau and Jacob)... it's like a combination of the two outcomes/problems.
verse 18-21... and they say spanking is a harsh form of punishment now!... wow!... I wonder if this is for older children (like adult children), though, because I can't imagine a 3 year old (or even a 10 year old or whatever) being called a 'drunkard and a profligate(wildly extravagen)'... it makes more sense that it would be an older child... but does also remind me of the "Prodigal Son" (Luke 15)... however, in that story, the father does not stone his son, instead, he welcomes him back with open arms... with this law from Deuteronomy in their minds, it would be amazing for the people of Jesus's day to get this concept... I bet they were somewhat skeptical about how God (the father symbolized in the story) could accept them back after all the sin they had done, but it is only through Jesus, which is why God could now, because Jesus had come to pay for all sin for all time... this story wouldn't have worked before hand... it amazes me how so many of the laws given in these first books are for the benefit of making people realize their sin, so that we can all appreciate being freed from it (through Jesus) so much more! (see Romans 3:19-24)
verse 22-23... is this part of the reason why Jesus's body was taken off the cross ('tree') before the night time and buried?... and why the soldiers would 'speed up' the crucified people's death so that they would die before sundown? (see John 19:30-37)... also 'anyone hung on a tree is under God's curse'... is this part of why Jesus said 'My God why have you foresaken Me?' (see Matthew 27:45-54)

  3. also, for Chapter 21:23... the study notes say to see Galatians 3:13 about how Jesus's death relates to this law.

Chapter 22: verse 1-4... treat others as you would want them to treat you (see Matthew 7:12... study notes also say to see Deuteronomy 5:21-'do not covet')
verse 5... here's the verse against 'cross dressing'... although I want to note that even though we try to make homosexuality and cross dressing a 'special' issue, it is really just lumped in under all the other laws... all of which, if broken, are called sin... not a single one is better or worse than any other, so why do we try to act like they are? If God says don't, then we shouldn't... simple enough.
verse 6-12... don't really have anything intelligent to contribute here... any thoughts???
    verse 13... ok, how rude!
verse 15 and 17... what is the 'proof' or 'clothe' that proved the virginity?
verse 20-21... wow, I could not even imagine having to watch my daughter stoned at the doorway of my house... it's like a punishment to the girl and her family!
verse 24... what if she couldn't scream or she did and no one helped? doesn't seem completely fair, but is good to see that justice is given in verse 25-27... it would be good to continue to practice this harsh of a consequence today for rape, instead of acting like it is not really a crime
verse 28-29... poor girl... I would not want to marry the man!... reminds me of the crazy passage about Dinah (see Genesis 34)
verse 30... law based on Reuben's indiscretions (see Genesis 35:22)
