Chapter 26: verse 1-11... good reminder that we should make a practice of remembering all the good things God has done in our lives and celebrate Him for them.
verse 12... we should freely give of our blessings to all those around us so they, too, can 'taste and see the Lord is good' and those who love Him will lack nothing (see Psalm 34:8-10)
veres 13-15... why say these things to God when He should already know (since He knows everything)? probably because God loves us and desires a relationship with us... communication is an extremely important part of any relationship... also holds us accountable to requires us to remember all we are promising that we have done
verse 16-18... God is our God, and we are His people... so act like it and show Him the love!
verse 19... God will do as He has promised
Chapter 27: verse 2... reminds me of Stonehenge a little
verse 3 and 8... kind of like the signs we see when we enter a new state or a new town... giving people the idea of what matters most to the inhabitants of that area... in this case, what matters most to the Isrealites is their God and their obedience to His just/fair laws... kind of letting any newcomers/visitors know what they can expect from the Isrealites, both in fairness of dealings, and justice in punishment... makes me wonder if people who enter our 'world' know what we hold dear and what principles we stand upon?
verse 1-13... see Joshua 8:33-35 for the actual happenings of this commandment... study notes imply that it was significant that the people met on the mountain to do this and didn't stay in the valley... I'm grasping at something, but not holding on to it, so anything concrete on this idea???
verse 9... 'be silent and listen'... common sense thing again, but so easy to forget, too... in order to listen, we have to stop talking... someone I know once said that if we wonder why we don't hear God's answer, it could be because we haven't been quiet enough for Him to get a word in... yes, we need to talk to God, but conversation is a two-way street, and it requires us to take time to listen and be still so we can know what God thinks about it all.
verse 15-26... the first 'responsive reading'? :)... interesting that of all the laws given by God to the people, these were the 12 that He really wanted to make sure they verbally acknowledged... must have been the big problem ones in those times/areas?... the study notes suggest that chapter 33 gives blessings to the tribes that correlate to these curses here.
verse 18... this one can be taken for us on several levels... those in sin are blind, so we are in trouble deep if we lead them further into sin or keep from guiding them out of the darkness
