Chapter 16: First church dissension verse 3... and I thought I had a short memory... really?!... why, as humans, do we not take more responsibility for the consequences of our own actions? verse 8-10... a little power can go to the head and cause a big problem... beware verse 11... awwww... nice of Moses to stick up for his brother verse 13-14... didn't they refuse to go when God offered it to them? If they think they can overtake Moses now to get their way, and their way had been to really move into the land, if Moses HAD been standing in their way of it, couldn't they have overtaken him then, too?... I'm just slapping my forehead like crazy here! verse 15... poor Moses... it is so hard when you are trying to do the right thing and people just keep criticizing you for it and won't see the good you are trying to do... I mean, really, how many times has Moses stood up for them and saved them from imminent death? Don't bite the hand that feeds you... or the hand that protects your rear verse 21... reminds me how God tells us to separate ourselves from the world so we do not get bogged down or caught up in its wicked ways (John 15:14-16,18-19; 2 Corinthians 10:2-3) verse 22... what a lesson I can learn from Moses... he is still watching out and loving the very people that what to kill him (see Matthew 5:43-48; Luke 6:27-36) verse 28... why are you mad at me... this was not even my idea (see Exodus 3-4) verse 30-33... COOL! verse 34... don't we always know when we are wrong and sinful verse 37-38... interesting that the sinful men did not defile the holy instruments of God... I feel like there is something deep here to say, but I can't quite grasp it... any thoughts? verse 42-47... cool how God has got the back of His people... reminds me of the line of Psalm 23: "I will fear no evil for God is with me" verse 45... why not just let God kill them off and be done with it? Will the people ever learn? Aren't we glad that God doesn't just "kill us off"? How long will it take us to learn? verse 46-47... Why must God follow the rules He set in place for atonement here? He doesn't always follow the rules of nature that He put in place? (see verse 31-33 again) Is it because God is a just God... does it have to do with that? verse 48... 'he stood between the living and the dead and the plague stopped'... a redemptive analogy... like Jesus does for us... He stands between our life with God and our death in sin and stops the plague of sinfulness from devouring us (stops Satan from devouring us like a prowling lion-1 Peter 5:6-8)
Chapter 17: This is just the COOLEST chapter!!! verse 5... God does not like to hear grumbling... He does have a limit of how much He can tolerate... we should not make it our goal to find out what His limit is verse 8... cool, cool, cool... God's like 'clear enough to you yet what my choice is?!' verse 12-13... finally, they get what awful sinners they are (Romans 7:24-25)... 'are we all going to die?'... our hope lies in Jesus!
Chapter 18: verse 3... Aaron is responsible for teaching the people under him and for their actions if he does not teach them to properly obey and revere God... in the same way, aren't we as parents responsible for raising our children to honor God (Deuteronomy 11:18-20; Psalm 34:10-11; Psalm 78, specifically verse 1-8) verse 7... serving God, and service for God, is a gift from God to us... it is not a chore verse 12... God gives us His best (see Matthew 7:7-14; Luke 11:9-13; James 1:17-18)... so why do we withhold our best from Him? verse 19... what is a covenant of salt?... did I miss something about salt here? verse 20... 'I am your share'... God is all we need (see Philippians 4:19) verse 23-24... when we work for God He supplies for all our needs... He already has it planned out, so when are you going to accept the job? verse 25-29... even those working for God must give back to God... do not take your wage and use it all, remember to honor God with an offering of thanksgiving for all He has done in your life and for all they ways He has provided your needs... and remember that He gave His best to us, so we should give our first and best back to Him as a sign of our love, and our trust in His faitfulness.
The IDEA: Romans 1:12-That we may be mutually strengthened, encouraged, and comforted by each others faith. Have you ever read the whole Bible before? We have never done it. We want to share God’s Word, but how can we if we do not know it.
The PLAN: Ecclesiastes 4:12-One person is easily overcome, but two can stand together and conquer. Three is even better, though, as a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. With each others help we can succeed-So, let us team up and read the Bible in a year.
The DATE: We will start Dec 26, 2009 - Dec 26, 2010.
The FYI: We will read 3-4 chapters each day, starting in Genesis, and post thoughts daily. If you do not have a Bible, you can access many translations at www.biblegateway.com. You can also download an audio for each chapter at: http://www.audiotreasure.com/webindex.htm
