Read it... have blog postings up through chapter 8 now... working on posting more comments tommorrow night. Thanks for your patience, and perseverance! God Bless, sandJ
Chapter 18: verse 1, 3-4... they were kindred spirits who both loved God... don't we tend to love others who love our God? verse 2, 5-9... did Saul keep David with him because he loved him as Jonathan did, or was it more along the lines of "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"? or maybe it was to glean some of the success and admiration others had for David?... I wonder is Saul remembers how he was supposed to be the one who was kicking Philestine tushy and getting the credit (1 Samuel 9:16)? verse 10-11... notice, again, how the 'evil spirit' comes upon Saul after he has given into the temptation to draw away from God and focus instead on unGodly things... reminds me of the caution to not give Satan a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27... notice it is directly after and sort of coupled with an admonishment about anger), because he certainly won't stop there.... makes me also wonder how often we bring the 'evil spirits' on ourselves because of our continuance of poor choices and lack of a willingness to repent and turn from them? verse 12... funny how Saul was afraid of David because of God, yet, David was not afraid of Saul, and also because of God verse 13-17, 20-21, 30... reminds me of the verses from Genesis, what was intended for evil, God has used for good (Genesis 50:20) verse 18-19... I wonder what Saul's daughter thought about that... going from David to anyone else would most certainly be a step down verse 22-23... David was a very wise and humble man! verse 24-27... drats! foiled again...I love how David is delighted at the prospect of earning his 'keep'... so much so that he is overzealous and makes sure to hold up his end of the deal... I never thought that these terms would make me think romantically, but it is kind of sweet how zealous David is about earning his bride. :) verse 28-29... sad that this family rift could not be reconciled!... it is so hard when families do not forgive and love and act like 'families'.... so many lose out that way sandJ
The IDEA: Romans 1:12-That we may be mutually strengthened, encouraged, and comforted by each others faith. Have you ever read the whole Bible before? We have never done it. We want to share God’s Word, but how can we if we do not know it.
The PLAN: Ecclesiastes 4:12-One person is easily overcome, but two can stand together and conquer. Three is even better, though, as a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. With each others help we can succeed-So, let us team up and read the Bible in a year.
The DATE: We will start Dec 26, 2009 - Dec 26, 2010.
The FYI: We will read 3-4 chapters each day, starting in Genesis, and post thoughts daily. If you do not have a Bible, you can access many translations at www.biblegateway.com. You can also download an audio for each chapter at: http://www.audiotreasure.com/webindex.htm
Read it.
